The "Surprise" Video, Part Two
David : "Here's a question for you. What are you going to be doing this Valentines Day? "

Josh : "Now .. what am I going to be doing for Valentine Day? That's a good question. And I wanna bring something up. We have done these great online Valentines. They're really cool. And we got this animator to .. to do wacky designs .. and they drew me. And I think it's really .. really interesting .. and uhh .. and so yeah we're gonna have those .. and we're gonna be sending those out and hopefully you guys will be able to get some and uh .. and I'll give you a link on them to the web site .. and you can send like on line Valentines to everybody else. And you can listen to the .. to the music. And I think that your sweethearts will be very .. very happy when they receive a Josh Groban Valentine."

David : "This is a .. it's a family .. excuse me everybody .. it's a family affair. This is Mr. Brian..."

[Transcriber's Note : Josh spoke over David so Brian's last name was not clear.]

Josh : "If you're just finding out that .. this is my manager." [points to Brian.]

David : "...Josh's manager whoose doing an unbelievably mediocre job." Josh : "An incredible job."

David : "No an incredible job. And he's my friend for 25 years. And he and Josh are like that. [crosses his middle finger and pointer as in best buddies.] So if you want Josh to do anything, call Brian."

Brian : "I think I ... call David."

Josh : "I think of Brian before I go to sleep."

David : "Oh ok."

Brian : "Oh boy."

David : "Whoa .. that's kind of scary."

Josh : "Not true."

David : "So you had .. you went down to Virgin and Tower and saw your own display didn't you .. you ego maniac."

Josh : "I did. [laughs]"

David : "Not that bad."

Josh : "I've been down to Virgin Record Store a couple times actually. I uhh .. I went down midnight when the CD came out. I came out .."

David : "Right."

Josh : ".. I came down with a bunch of friends... "

David : "Mmm hmm."

Josh : ".. and we all .. we all sort .. we all went up to the counter and we're like .. do you have the Josh Groban CD. And they didn't really know who .. who I was. But they did."

David : "No they didn't really. They didn't know."

Josh : "They didn't know who I was at all. And uhh .. and so they got a box of them .. they brought 'em up and they did have it. So we all bought one and that was fun. But yeah since then .. like .. they've been putting like displays up .. and the thing .. and I .. I never get .. It's so new to me right now .. this whole banner thing. I .. I get freaked out every time I see a banner of myself in a music store. So .. so yeah whenever we're out to lunch or something and we see a Virgin Record Store we always go in and we're just like .. oh there it is .. and we walk out."

David : " You know I just thought of a question because on the uhh .. fan site .. umm .. they always talk about what a nice guy you are and how humble you are. Which I can attest to. That's absolutely true. And we've had many .. many long conversations about how humble he is .. how nice he is and how he's gonna stay that way. And I know your fans talk about that a lot .. and I mean there's a couple of reasons why I believe .. we talked about the press thing .. and your family. You wanna talk about that a little bit? You know .. and we'll beat you if you don't."

Josh : "Yeah I will be beaten severely if I don't. Uhh yeah we've had lots of talks and I've .. You know when you're working with someone like David .. and we're all perfectionists .. and we all wanna make the best music possible .. and the best album possible .. and this whole .. you know .. really can we see you thing is really cool and its really new .. and it's kind of frightning. And uhh .. as much praise as you get every day .. you've also got a hundred things that are .. you have to do better every day. So .. everything keeps you grounded. My family is great. My family is really kind of .. kind of .. "

David : "Your Mom .. your .. "

Josh : "My Mom .. I've got a Mom .. I've got my Mom .. I've got my younger brother.."

David : "Chris."

Josh : ".. and uh Chris .. and uhh and my Dad. And they're all just great. And whenever I .. whenever I .. "

David : "And Uncle Brian."

Josh : "And Uncle Brian. [laughing]"

David : "Uh huh."

Josh : "My manager yeah. But uhh .. he's not really my Uncle. Ummm .. [laughs hardy]"

Offscreen female voice : "Not that you know of."

David : "Yeah not that you know of."

Brian : "How do you know?"

David : "Yeah right."

Josh : "But uhh but we .."

David : "Get to the important stuff."

Josh : "It's definitely important. And .. and .. and I think if I ever .. get to a certain point where it looks like I'm getting a little too uhh .. too caught up in .. in myself .. I'm sure the fans will notice and they'll post him."

David : "We'll cut your throat out. No not really .. [laughs]"

Brian : "With a spoon."

David : "With a spoon."

Josh : "Ohhhh. [shudders uncomfortably at the thought.]"

David : "No cause it's important .. cause these fans are gonna be with you for life. I mean they've .. they've .. they're .. they're .. they have become friends with each other .. and they love your music. I mean they truly .. truly love what you do .. "

Josh : " Well I ... "

David : ".. and its great to see."

Josh : ".. and I love them. I mean the community that they've made on this website is really .. really amazing. I mean I'm just .. I'm just amazed with how..."

David : "Ok Josh will visit all 50 states. Just set it up in the city of the state. He'll be there all 50 states. You have to send the jet though .. we won't... "

Josh : "Exactly."

David : ".. We can't do that. Here's a good question."

Josh : "Ok."

David : "Where do you picture yourself ten years from now? I won't do twenty and thirty."

Josh : "I hope in ten years uhh .. to have at least 5 or 6 albums completed."

David : "Who .. who .. who will be producing those is what I wanna hear."

Josh : "Uhh gee .. [laughs]."

David : "Just .. I can see on album three .. I'll get the call .. Uhh David .. yeah Josh .. you know umm .. I'm going a different direction on this album.. Ok .. go ahead .. Sorry to cut you off."

Josh : "Umm .. no I .. I hope to be .. I hope to be still working with David that's for sure. I hope uhh .. I hope to have the same team around me. I hope to have the same fans with me in ten years. I hope to kind of expand musically and try some different things. Not to go too far from what we're doing but try some interesting things. Like I said I love all the music .."

David : "You play drums really well."

Josh : "I play Drums."

David : "Yeah."

Josh : "I've been playing drums for like five or six years. So maybe I'll drum a little bit on a few cds and I'll play a little piano. We'll see. But umm .. but yeah it .. I .. boy ten years down the road .. down the road ... I'm just .. I'm worried about what I'm gonna do tomorrow so..."

David : "Mmmmm."

Josh : "Yeah I'm done."

David : "It's interesting when you talk about the team. Celine .. I think one of the .. I mean to me Celine Dion's career is one of the most flawlessly handled careers. It .. it's just perfect .. you know she .. it was this slow climb and just when she was getting over exposed she ducked out for two or three years.."

Josh :"Right."

David : "But she also has kept for the most part .. the same team around her. I mean I've been with her for thirteen years. Not as the only producer but she keeps going back to the genesis of what it was .. and I think that I .. you'll be wise to do that."

Josh : [Laughs in his deep sexy laugh.]

David : "Well .. Hello Josh .. how'd you get this number?"

Josh : "Oh man."

David : "Umm .. Ok .. here's a question that I have a little trouble asking you ok.?

Josh : "Ok."

David : "I'm going to quote from at least thirty or fourty fans .. you ready ?"

Josh : "Ok."

David : "Will you marry me..?"

Josh : "Ahh David ..."

David "Not me ..."

Josh : "I've been waiting."

David : ".. I'm quoting."

Josh : "Ok. [laughs] Ummm...."

David : "What about marriage. whats .. I mean you're very young."

Josh : "I'm very young. I'm twenty years old and uhhh .. and there's nothing I'm looking at for quite a long time. However I've been very very flattered to get .. to get these questions. We've gotten .. like what did you name fourty people .. at least .. have asked me .. probably some what jokingly to marry them. Uhh .. and uhh .."

David : "I don't think they're joking."

Josh : [With a surprised look at the realization of David's words.] "Oh... Well..."

David : "But you're too young .. I would never.."

Josh : "I'm too young."

David : ".. let that happen."

Josh : "And umm .. but .. but you know .. I'll be .. I'll be on the message board quite a bit so we might get to know each other .. and perhaps marriage is in the future for us. I mean you never know .. I mean .. "

David : "You never know. I met my wife of the internet."

Josh : "I like you and you guys like me. [laughs] And uhh .. you never know."

David : "All right another crazy.."

Josh : "Keep asking."

David : ".. question. Another crazy .. This is .. Is this fun or what?

Josh : "It's lot's of fun."

David : "We have no rules here. It's so great."

Josh : "I know."

David : "The most memorable thing that woke you up in the middle of the night?"

[Transcriber's Note: Dead silence for about 30 seconds and then Josh laughs and says :]

Josh : "Oh I thought you were gonna tell me what it was."

David : "No I wasn't there Josh .. hopefully."

Josh : "The most memorable thing that woke me up in the middle of the night .. umm .. oh gosh. Umm .. nothings woken me. I .. I never go to bed past .. before midnight so .. nothings woken me up in the middle of the night. I'll tell you one thing I woke up .. and this is quite on a serious .. a serious note. On the morning of September 11th I woke up with the worst .. I felt the worst I've ever felt in my entire life. I had .. I .. I had taken .. I had eaten something the night before .. I had the worst heartburn ever. I had a terrible headache. I woke up .. I never sleep late .. I always sleep late. I always sleep to like eleven or twelve.. and I got up at like seven thirty .. eight in the morning .. just saying .. I have to go down and get something. I went down and turned on the TV .. and that was probably .. probably the most shocking and horrific thing I've ever woken up to."

David : "[what david said is not understandable on the audio feed of the copy I am transcribing from. But it sounds like he said:] Yeah even that."

Josh : "A lot of people woke up to that."

David : "Truly it's the most shocking thing thats happened in this century almost so you know you've experienced .. it's the most shocking thing for you as a twenty-year old .. it's the most shocking thing for me as a fifty-year old. It's just uhhh .. not even .."

Josh : "Yeah."

David : ".. possible to put it into the right words but umm .. you know .. hopefully we're on the right path now."

Josh : "Definitely."

David : "And you're certainly doing the right music to heal."

Josh : "I hope so. I mean .. people .. people always will look to music I think to heal .."

David : "Yeah."

Josh : ".. and to feel better about .. about thier surroundings and whats going on. And uhh .. it certainly wasn't .. It was our intention to a certain degree. You know .. to invoke .."

David : "It was."

Josh : ".. to invoke that in people. But even now I think music holds a special meaning and .."

David : "Yeah."

Josh : ".. and uh .. I think it's great .."

David : "I was .."

Josh : "..if there's anybody that found comfort."

David : "I was hopeing that umm .. my wife Linda could be down here but she's gone. But she wrote the lyrics to umm .. You're Still You and To Where You Are which are two .."

Josh : "Yeah."

David : ".. of the songs that are geting a lot of attention on the album. The lyrics of To Where You Are which she wrote pre 9-11 with our friend Richard Marx is uhh .. just a stunning uhh .. statement I think."

Josh : "Yeah it's an amazing statement. And it holds such special meaning now. And uh .. and uh .. that is one of the great things off of my Alley McBeal. David Kelly kind of wrote that story .."

David : "Mmm Hmm."

Josh : "..around those events and umm .. and uhh I know a lot of you who wrote in said that uh .. that you got a lot from that."

David : "It helped .. yeah."

Josh : "It helped a lot."

David : "And well you know it is kind of a family affair .. well there's a couple of friends of Josh's that worked on the album. And everybody's become a big family with Bill Ross the arranger, and Jeremy Lubbock who did some of the stuff. My daughter Amy wrote the lyrics to home to stay. I wanted her to be here today too because .. well we'll do that maybe another time."

Josh : "Yeah."

David : "I know it takes a long time to download this stuff for some people so we're just going to go through a couple of more e-mail questions and then let's play a little of the music .."

Josh : "Yeah."

David : ".. that didn't make the album. Not cause it wasn't good but it just didn't fit.."

Josh : "Yeah exactly."

David : ".. for whatever reason. It'll show you kind of what we're working on."

Josh : "ok."
