The shy guy with the magical voice cuts ties with David Foster, moves from California to New York, joins forces with rock producer Rick Rubin and becomes a singer-songwriter. Judging by the strongest of his new songs — Bells of New York City — Josh likes the new surroundings.
This CD would have been better if it had stuck to the original plan, presenting Groban as a folky balladeer. It works on tracks like Higher Window.
Outstanding track: If I Walk Away
