November 26, 2008
Josh Groban fans will be pleased to hear that he is due to make a West End appearance in the coming few weeks, the second time the American singer has appeared on a London stage this year. Groban, whose hits include the chart-topping "You Raise Me Up", will present Radio 2 Celebrates the Music of Disney at the Lyceum theatre on 8 December.
The special tribute concert features the current cast of The Lion King, who will perform Disney hits along with a company of Broadway and West End stars including Maria Friedman, Adam Pascal, Matt Rawle, Drew Sarich, Ashley Brown, Tituss Burgess and Kerry Butler, accompanied by the 74-piece BBC Concert Orchestra. Radio 2 Celebrates the Music of Disney, recorded as a Christmas special edition of the Friday Night Is Music Night programme, will be aired on Boxing Day, 26 December 2008.
It marks second time this year that Groban has appeared on stage in the capital, having starred opposite Idina Menzel in Chess at the Royal Albert Hall back in May (See News, 11 Jan 2008). He first found fame when he starred and sung in an episode of US sitcom Ally McBeal in 1997 and secured a recording deal with Warner Brothers after he stood in for Andrea Bocelli to sing "The Prayer" with Celine Dion at the 1998 Grammy rehearsals. His solo records include Josh Groban, followed by Closer, Awake, and most recently a Christmas album entitled Noel.
