Beth Brown of Richmond has been crowned MS Indiana Plus America 2006.
She will compete with women from all over the United States for the title of Plus America Elite in July in Monroe, La.
"I am proud to represent the State of Indiana as MS Indiana in the 2006 Miss Plus America Pageant," Brown said.
The Miss Plus America Pageant system is unlike any other pageant concept. It celebrates the inner beauty of each contestant, as well as recognizing their commitment to their communities. Melissa Stamper, executive director for Coronet Productions, said Brown is an ideal candidate for the Miss Plus America Pageant.
Brown also claimed a similar title in 2005 and was named the fourth runner-up in the Ms. Plus America pageant. Brown said last year that while some people might consider the "plus-size" concept in a pageant derogatory, it doesn't bother her.
As MS Indiana, Beth will have the opportunity to further promote her platform: The Josh Groban Foundation.
"I have chosen the Josh Groban Foundation due to the multiple charities that are involved from Save the Children, Mercy Corp., 46664, Zamimpilo Orphanage in South Africa to the Tsunami relief effort just to name a few," she said.
The foundation's mission is to help children in need around the world through contributions to the arts, education and healthcare.
Brown is currently the project coordinator for Riley's Wishes, a bi-annual toy drive for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
She is also helping to coordinate a music drive to help benefit St. Mary's Dominican High School in New Orleans, the city that played host to the 2005 MS Plus America contest.
"They lost their entire music department to hurricane Katrina," Brown said. "The assistance from the Foundation on all these causes is heartwarming. The Foundation and Josh's caring nature and generous soul can only have a very large fan base that would do anything for the causes he supports. I am proud and deeply honored to be a supporter of this wonderful organization."
Brown has a degree in practical nursing and has worked in the medical field for 15 years. She also is a trained certified permanent cosmetic technologist, specializing in cosmetic tattooing.
"My main focus includes but is not limited to those that have permanent hair loss from cancer treatment, scar camouflage, areola restoration after breast reconstructive surgery, and lips for those that have had cleft palate reconstruction," Brown said.
She is taking online classes through Devry University pursuing a degree in technical management with a major in computer information systems. In her spare time, she enjoys archery, painting, singing, horseback riding and ballroom dancing.
